As many of you know Wordpress, one of the most popular online blogging tools has just recently upgraded to version 2.8. This is great news since they have included many great new features and tools. Which is great for clients of Blueprint Marketing and Website design because we have upgraded ourselves and our clients to the latest version 2.8.
After a fresh install of Wordpress 2.8, which by the way only took a few minutes of my time, I immediately noticed some major changes. The first one being a very prominent password reminder at the top of the administrator page. It caught my eye immediately instructing me to change the auto-generated password automatically created with the fresh install. Not that this feature will change the world but it is a great first step toward protecting your blog.
Next up is to create some users. I started off with one for me and my partner Julianna. That’s when I notice the way that they have changed and rearranged almost the whole thing. Not to panic because after a quick glance over the screen I quickly recalibrate myself. This new admin layout is set up into columns which is great. But even better is that you can rearrange them by dragging and dropping them into the slots that suit you best. This could be a great advantage for users who have larger screens!
Another great new feature is the newly redesigned layout for the plugin management interface. This new interface allows you to quickly glance over your plugins and tell which ones are active, inactive, recently active, or if there is an upgrade available. You will also notice that all of your plugins are now displayed in one single list.
So far I am very impressed with Wordpress 2.8! It has been a while since I have felt the need to upgrade to a newer version and I am happy that I have.
